(To Belgrade!) stamp issue of the Czech Republic, September 10, 1997 graphic arrangement: Zdeněk Ziegler engraver: Josef Herčík "A tak v ten památný den objevil se na pražských ulicích případ dojemné loajality: Stará žena, strkající před sebou vozík, na kterém seděl muž ve vojenské čepici s vyleštěným frantíkem, mávající berlemi. A na kabátě skvěla se pestrá rekrutská kytka. A muž ten, mávaje poznovu a poznovu berlemi, křičel do pražských ulic: "Na Bělehrad, na Bělehrad!" Za ním šel zástup lidu, který stále vzrůstal z nepatrného hloučku shromáždivšího se před domem, odkud Švejk vyjel na vojnu.'" And so on that memorable day there appeared on the Prague streets a moving example of loyality. An old woman pushing before her a bathchair, in which there sat a man in an army cap with finely polished Imperial badge and waving his crutches. And in his button-hole there shone the gay flowers of a recruit. And this man, waving his crutches again and again, shouted out to the streets of Prague: "To Belgrade, to Belgrade!" He was followed by a crowd of people which steadily grew from the small group that had gathered in front of the house from which he had gone out to war. The complete text of this chapter in original Czech, in English and other languages can be read on a very interesting website about Jaroslav Hašek.
